The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge game development, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
